Insightful Advocacy

Welcome to Insightful Advocacy, where families and educators partner to ensure children and adults with visual impairments, deaf-blindness, and neurological/cortical visual impairment (N/CVI) receive the support they truly need.

My work centers on advocating during IEP's and 504's, guiding families through the special education process, and helping teams implement effective accommodations, modifications, and communication strategies. I believe every learner deserves to be seen, understood, and supported through clear, informed collaboration.

I also have a passion (and have written a few books!) about the importance of strong assessments for students with visual impairments.

Drawing on over 25 years of experience in education, I use my background in Functional Vision Evaluations, Learning Media Assessments, Assistive Technology, and the Expanded Core Curriculum to help teams interpret data and translate it into meaningful, practical action. The frameworks and tools I’ve developed, including those featured in my books, ensure that advocacy is thoughtful, empowering, and centered on real educational access.
