About Amie
I’m Amie Nugent-Hankins, a Teacher of the Visually Impaired and special education advocate with more than 25 years of experience supporting children with visual impairments, deaf-blindness, and neurological/cortical visual impairment (N/CVI). My work combines professional expertise with personal understanding to help families and educators recognize how the brain processes vision and learning. Through Insightful Advocacy, I guide teams in building clear communication, practical supports, and inclusive educational plans that allow every child to reach their full potential.

Visual impairments and related conditions like deaf-blindness and N/CVI are low-incidence disabilities, which means many schools simply haven’t had the training or experience to fully understand them. I help families navigate IEPs, assessments, and school communication with clarity and confidence.
